Early in 2015 I was extremely fortunate that Simon accepted an invitation to visit the Cobra factory. His main focus was to work alongside some of the finish shapers and fine tune areas of the shape detail that cannot be translated with CNC files or written notes.During this visit Simon shaped a board for Cooper Chapman using the XF tech layup which has proven to be popular with guys such as Matt Banting, Adam Melling, Harry Bryant and Hiroto Arai.
Simon has worked with many high profile surfers such as Kelly Slater during his long carer as a surfboard craftsman, these days his board research and development is focused around young North Narrabeen surfer Cooper Chapman.
Cooper along with Davy Cathels are the vanguard of young North Narrabeen surfers on a mission to qualify through the 2015 WSL QS tour.
Cooper is currently sitting in 19th place on the 2015 WQS rankings, when you take into account the time spent with Simon on the North Shore of Hawaii during the tail end of the 2014 season Cooper has a platform to build on to qualify for the 2016 CT and we wish him all the best!
I cannot thank Simon enough for taking the time to share his knowledge and skill with our team at production! I am stoked that Simon is involved with our board program and his consistent effort to achieve a higher standard ensures that we are always moving in a positive direction!
